  • New Traveling Exhibition to Hit the Road

The Bess Bower Dun Museum in Libertyville, IL is adding a new traveling exhibition to its lineup. “Bill Sienkiewicz: Pop Culture Revolution” is the most recent exhibition developed by Dunn Museum staff to hit the road this fall. “We are booking rentals at other museums and cultural institutions now,” said Exhibit Designer Robin Hill.

Sienkiewicz, a legendary comic book artist, is best known for revolutionizing the style of comic and novel illustration. His landmark works, including Marvel Comics' ‘Elektra: Assassin’ and his acclaimed graphic novel ‘Stray Toasters,’ have earned him an international reputation and cult-like following across
    media industries.

“It takes two important ingredients to create traveling exhibitions,” said Director of Education Nan Buckardt. “Original, intriguing material draws visitors and skilled staff transforms an idea to a blockbuster exhibition.

“We are fortunate to have both terrific, original material and talented Dunn Museum staff who can build exciting exhibitions,” Buckardt said.

The new traveling exhibition includes more than 60 framed original drawings and sketches, interview video clips with Sienkiewicz describing his creative process, exclusive access to the artist’s merchandise, text panels and all printed labels. It is ideal for hosting venues with gallery space between 1,500 and 2,000 square feet.

The inspiration for the Sienkiewicz exhibition came from the recent success of another comic book artist’s traveling exhibition. “Marvelocity: The Art of Alex Ross” was recently in Canton, OH and is now in Sheboygan, WI. “It has taken off and has been rented through January 2025 with limited availability until
    December 2025,” Hill said.

The Dunn Museum owns two other traveling exhibitions: “A Picture is Worth 1,000 Yards: Sports Photography of Walter Payton,” and “Adlai E. Stevenson II 1953 World Tour: Around the World in 180 Days.”

The Lake County Forest Preserves operates the Dunn Museum, which is among only 3% of museums nationally to have earned accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums, an industry mark of distinction.
